inklingroom records is proud to present 'pyryx' - a single by lil replica.
The anonymous duo’s first single showcases their blend of angelic vocal sections, disorienting micro chopped pianos, hard cut effects and explosive bursts of synths.
lil replica’s music emerges from intimate improvs before being converted into digital chunks in a process of self-sampling and re-sampling. Yet even in the digital domain lil replica remain irregular and organic, refusing the strict grid that coheres most electronic music. Their music wobbles and lurches - it shows its workings.
The self-made video for pyryx echoes this distinct musical language, trapped between the human/sensual and the digital/highly processed - shuddering volumetric images convert the band into strange timeless figures, both deeply ancient yet hyper-modern, sad elven warriors roaming a bleak digital landscape, mourning a pyrrhic victory.
Throughout the video and artwork the repeated motif of an uncanny castle (itself generated through a now superseded AI) is seen and will be fully revealed as the cover of their forthcoming LP, Redux & Respair.
